Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis Survey Results (Download)

Three hundred and sixteen individuals completed this Web-based survey, which was conducted in August of 2008.

Topics covered included:

  • An overview of common stress tests conducted.
  • What area is responsible for conducting the testing?
  • How are the results of stress tests shared throughout the organization?
  • Learn more about incorporating results into the decision-making process, documentation of the process, as well as gain a better understanding of the perceived benefits of stress testing.

Some Key Findings of the Survey Include:
  • Stress Testing is conducted in 42% of the surveyed institutions, with the commercial loan and non-owner occupied commercial real estate portfolios receiving most resources.
  • Results of the stress tests are being shared with the Board of Directors in 66% of the institutions that stress test.
  • The results of the stress tests are most widely incorporated into the individual and portfolio lending decisions, concentration and limit setting, as well as setting the allowance for loan and lease losses. The results are not being utilized fully in strategic or business planning, and capital planning.
  • Current barriers for utilizing stress testing more fully include lack of perceived expertise within the institution as well as lack of systems to enable stress testing.
